More than 600 Jobs coming to the Upstate.
BMW Manufacturing, Co. will be adding 600 jobs to its Greer assembly plant this year. The increase in jobs is due to the popularity for the company’s X5 and X6 sports coupes. Plans are in motion to make most of the company’s contract workforce full time employees. In August and September, BMW announced two separate hiring campaigns, for a total of 1,000 new hires. With this latest hiring news, the company will have added 1,600 employees to its workforce.
The increase in hiring portrays a strong image for the company’s outlook and will bring more jobs to the upstate with this latest hiring campaign. A study conducted by University of South Carolina economists in 2008 found for every BMW job created, 3.3 jobs in the area are created. This reaches from the suppliers to local restaurants to local shopping malls. MAU staffing agency will be holding job fairs October 13 and October 20 from 9-4 at the Spartanburg Community College’s Tyger River Campus in Duncan.
