Mom Caves
You’ve heard of the Man Cave, a place a man can call his own; a place a woman won’t dare go unannounced. It’s outfitted with the latest in technology gadgets or a place to tinker on projects; a place where no girls are allowed. Old college stories are told and embellished, sports rivals come together, and World War III is going down on Call of Duty. These special areas are highly sought after by the men in the home as a place to get away from it all.
Well, now the girls don’t have to feel left out; they’ve got a cave of their own, the Mom Cave. This cave is not exclusive to moms however; it’s for women of all ages, shapes and sizes. Typically an unused bedroom, closet or nook will suffice as a place to call a Mom Cave; a place of sanctuary and peace and quiet.
If you think these Mom Caves are purely an excuse to get away and relax . . . well, you’d be right. Very similar in nature to the Man Cave, these Mom Caves are a place of private seclusion to focus on hobbies, projects, and quiet time. Many women have their caves decked out with a wifi network, TV, iPod and computer to work on projects or stay up-to-date with their television shows. Some women take an alternative route and decorate in whimsical colors and furniture, using childhood memories and photos to remind them of times gone by. Others will use their designated place for crafts and hobbies, a place where the door can be closed to the mess and half-completed projects.
These caves, rooms, nooks or closets serve as a place for the woman in the house to retreat to and do something for herself. Whether its reading a book, playing online solitaire, watching the latest episode of The Young and The Restless, getting caught up on projects, listening to music, or unwinding, these multipurpose rooms are the next up and coming thing.
