According to TopRetirements.com, for 2010, the Carolinas top Florida as the place for people to retire. Using a variety of factors, such as taxes, climate, cost of living, geography, economy, healthcare, and the cool factor, the two regions went head-to-head for the title of best retirement state.
Both regions have plenty to offer potential retirees. If you enjoy more of a mild four season year with plenty of diversity in geography, North and South Carolina might be more to your liking. Perhaps if you enjoy golfing and swimming in January, Florida might more along the lines of what you are looking for.
According to the Zillow Home Value Index, the averaged priced home in North Carolina is $137,300 while in Florida it’s a bit lower at $136,500. The overall U.S. home value index is $182,400.
